Interesting facts about Los Angeles:

1. The people of Los Angeles are known as Angelenos.

2. Los Angeles was founded in 1781, by a spanish govnor named Felipe De Neve.

3. Los Angeles was a part of mexico 1821 and was purchased by the united states on April 4,1850.

4. Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States following none other then New York City.

Interesting facts about New York City:

1. New York City is the largest city in the United States, and has been so since 1790.

2. New York City served as the United States capitol from 1785 until 1790.

3. New York city was founded by the europeans in 1524.

4. New York City has the highest usuage of mass transit in the United States and the highest consumption of Gas since the 1920's.

Los Angeles and New York are similar in the following ways:


1.Both Cities receive a majority of their economy from real estate or the banking industry.

2. Both cities have a large amount of MediaMarkets, including television,news papers and Music. New york is the largest media market in North America to be followed by Los Angeles.

3. Both Cities have a large love for sports. New york has Six major professional sport teams including the New York Jets, New York Giants, New York Rangers, New York Knicks New York Yankees and the New York Mets. Los Angeles has four major professional sport teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.

4. Both cities in 2007 were experiencing a drastic drop in crime. Los Angeles only experienced 392 homicides which nearly cut the statistics in half from the prior year. New York city for the first time ever since crime statistics were first recorded had fewer then 500 homicides.

Los Angeles and New York are different in the following ways:

1.Los Angeles and New York have a city square mile difference of only 29.400 square miles. Los Angeles is 498.3 square miles of city, while New York is 468.9 square miles of city.

2. In the 2000 Census New York City had approximatly 5 million more residence then Los Angeles. New York had 45% of their population as white, 28% black, 27% hispanic and 10% Asian. Los Angeles had 46.9% of their population as white, 10% black, 46.5% hispanic and 10% Asian.

3. Los Angeles has 25 sister cities, while New York City only has ten.

4. New York City reaches a high of 83* on average in July and a low of 23* in January. Los Angeles reaches a high of 84* on average in July and a low of 48* in January.


With traffic a major concern here locally I wanted to know how traffic was affected in cities several times the size of Santa Rosa. According to wikipedia Los angeles has approximately 1.4 million daily riders on the bus systems, second to only New York City. 54% of all New yorkers perfer public transit while only 11% of Los Angeles residents ride consistantly.
